about

Note from D. Murray:

This is the Tucson-based band, Radio Ground Zero's debut album, recorded at "Studio Ground Zero" (Jeff and Davie's dorm-style apartment) from June to August, 1989.

Aside from some ending fades, I have left this digitization of the original production cassette recording untouched. It was salvaged from the dollar bin at Toxic Ranch Records in Tucson, AZ about 15 years ago (I insisted on paying even though the store owner remembered me consigning it some 10 years prior and was willing to let me take it for free).

The stock TDK D60 normal bias cassette tape that was used contains a healthy dose of dropouts and other anomalies indicative of the cassette medium, along with noticeable stretches and splices from the source 1/4" reel to reel it was dubbed from.

I believe the tracks were mostly recorded using Mike Hrencecin's cassette 4-track with a channel of synchronization code to lock the IBM XT-based sequencer to the vocal tracks, which were recorded in the apartment bathroom.

Enjoy!

Laporte departed after the release of 1K.
Singer Chris Porro joined in 1990.
